Oliver! was performed by the society on 26-29 April 2006 at the Bob Hope Theatre, Eltham.
Synopsis
A musical phenomenon, Oliver! is based on one of Charles Dickens' most famous novels. Showing the life of the poor in 1830's London is contrasted with the bright songs of a people making the best of it, both the rich and the poor, the honest and the thieves.
Oliver Twist was just another workhouse boy, living and working in an orphanage. They are never fed much and for the sin of greed (he asked for more) was sold to work for an undertaker. Escaping this life, he encounters the Artful Dodger and Fagin who recruit Oliver to their line of work where he has to pick a pocket or two. But when arrested after his first day at work, Oliver must trust to luck and find his way out of crime to a place where he can truly consider himself at home.
